Report on AGM

The Ruddington Gardens Association AGM took place on Feb 25 2026 in St Peters Rooms.

Everyone was welcomed to the annual meeting where members heard the association’s finances were looking healthy and an interesting programme of talks, events and trips were planned for the coming year.

Annual membership remains at more than 50 and everyone is encouraged to pay their annual subs, retained at just £5. The meeting heard that our raffles and sponsorship boosted our coffers considerably.

There has to be some caution, however, as the fees charged by our regular speakers is increasing.

Our chairman Mike Davey reported on a difficult summer last year with gardeners unfortunately having to focus on constant watering to keep plants alive.

He urged everyone to get propagating and dividing plants now to ensure a good supply for our popular plant sale on Wednesday May 27.

One of our stalwart committee members, Harold Swift, has stepped down. He was congratulated for his years of dedicated service, including a long period before Ruddington Gardeners’ Association was revamped in 2010. Harold was presented with a dwarf rhododendron for his garden, a card of thanks and an acknowledgement from the Royal Horticultural Society for his long involvement with RGA.

The new committee was elected under the guidance of Ruddington parish councillor Allen Wood. He spoke about the debt of gratitude offered to chairman Mike Davey. Our treasurer David Russell said in his report: “The expertise and influence of our chairman is a major factor in the strength and financial stability of the association.”

Lesley Cree Opticians kindly helped to sponsor Ruddington Village Show in September 2025, organised by RGA, and the Ruddington-based business received hearty thanks for everyone present at the AGM.

Members enjoyed a fine selection of wine and cheese to round off the evening.

Our programme of events can be found here.

Good gardening!
